The Reality Of Nigerian Economy in 2016
2016 ECONOMY SAILING: NIGERIA PERSPECTIVE
1. It's going to be a challenging and difficult year for the economy. The 2016 budget is based on USD38 per barrel. Today oil price is at USD27 per barrel. Already, 2016 budget is dead on arrival. I expect the price of oil to get to USD20 per barrel by March and we may see a USD to N320 by then.
2. Most companies may shut down and lay off staff. As a result of the increasing economic difficulty, most companies will be forced to close shops or layoff staff. Already, this is happening quietly, Visafone laid off staff last week, a major bank will lay off 400 staff next week.
3. Most states will lay off workers as they are technically insolvent.
4. Government may likely increase VAT and make it compulsory for all services.
5. We may witness another round of Structural Adjustment Program
It's important for people to:
1. Watch their spending. Stop spending money on the frivolous items, parties and personal items.
2. Look for additional source of income.
